I'm Al Hogan, I’m the Owner and Founder of Team Randori Martial Arts, MD.  My background and experience in Martial Arts and Combatives instruction stem from my military and federal law enforcement service.  I’m a retired U.S. Army CW4, with 22 years of service.  During my military tenure, I’ve been awarded with numerous citations and awards, which include a Bronze Star for service in Iraq and another during service in Afghanistan and other citations while assigned to the Department of Defenses’ Executive Protection Unit, where I provided personal Executive Level Protection to the Secretary of Defense, Secretary of Army and other High-Risk Personnel.  I'm also a graduate of the Federal Bureau of Investigation National Academy (FBINA) Session 232.

Pursuant to my military retirement, I worked as a Federal Law Enforcement (LE) Special Agent 1811-GS15, attending and graduating from the instructor course for Control Tactics for LE hand-to-hand combat training at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC) and the Gracie Survival Tactics Course (GST) for Law Enforcement.  I’ve instructed countless people in Control Tactics, Street Survival and Personal and Executive Protection.   

As you can see, LEADERSHIP, DISCIPLINE, AND MARTIAL ARTS have always been a part of my personal and professional life.  Since founding Team Randori, I have competed in many Brazilian Jiu Jitsu tournaments, testing my skills.  As a student of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, I was awarded a Black Belt from Professor Carlos Lima in 2019, and under his tutelage, became an International Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Federation (IBJJF) Master 4 World Champion in 2017 and again a Masters 5 World Champion in 2019.  I have also won Gold several times at the IBJJF New York Open, IBJJF Pan Championships, NAGA and other local tournaments and competitions.

My goal is to offer you a PREMIER Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Academy.  I want Team Randori to be a place where you can learn Brazilian Jiu Jitsu from COMPETENT, EXPERIENCED and KNOWLEDGEABLE Instructors. In other words, THE BEST!
